Hendrick Goltzius (1558–1617) was a German-born Dutch printmaker, draftsman, painter and publisher associated with Northern Mannerism and the early Baroque. He established his professional career in Haarlem, where he built a publishing business and became one of the period’s most influential engravers. His work combines precise line engraving with inventive compositions drawn from biblical stories, classical mythology, Roman history, portraiture and landscape.
