About Ettore Tito

Nationality
Italian
Ettore Tito (1859–1941) was an Italian painter and sculptor whose career became closely connected with Venice. Born in Castellammare di Stabia and later based in Venice, he trained at the city’s Accademia di Belle Arti and served as its Professor of Painting from 1894 to 1927. Tito is associated with the Venetian school and is especially known for paintings of contemporary life, Venetian views, and landscapes of the lagoon and surrounding region. His wider output included portraits as well as mythological and religious subjects, combining observation of modern life with themes rooted in Venetian artistic tradition. He exhibited internationally, received the Grand Prize in painting at the 1915 Panama–Pacific International Exposition, and became a member of the Royal Academy of Italy in 1926. Collectors may encounter his name across painting and sculpture, although the collected evidence describes his painted subjects much more fully than his sculptural production.

Common works and media
Paintings are the most strongly documented part of Tito’s output. Commonly described subjects include contemporary Venetian life, views of Venice, landscapes of the city and surrounding region, and portraits. Sources also associate him with mythological and religious compositions. Tito is additionally identified as a sculptor, but the collected material does not provide enough detail to characterize specific sculptural formats or their frequency in auction settings.
Market and appraisal context
Appraisal of a work attributed to Ettore Tito should begin by distinguishing its medium and work type and identifying its subject. The collected sources most clearly document paintings of contemporary life, Venice, nearby landscapes, portraits, and religious or mythological themes. These distinctions can help identify genuinely comparable auction records instead of treating every work associated with Tito as equivalent. The available source pack does not include accessible major-auction-house lot pages, catalogue notes, or individual realized-price evidence, so it does not support a price prediction or claim about market direction. A valuation should therefore be grounded in verified object details and closely matched public sale records when such records are available.

- Sculpture is documented as part of Tito's occupation, but the pack does not establish how frequently his sculptures appear at auction.
