Pieter van Bloemen (1657–1720), known by the bent-name Standaart, was a Flemish painter, draughtsman, and printmaker celebrated for his Italianate landscapes, equestrian scenes, and animal subjects. Born in Antwerp and baptized on 17 January 1657, he was the eldest of three painter brothers—Jan Frans (called Orizzonte) and Norbert also achieved recognition. Van Bloemen traveled to Rome, where he joined the Bentvueghels, the society of expatriate Netherlandish artists, and absorbed the Italianate landscape tradition. After returning to Antwerp he became a guild master, producing compositions that blend Flemish precision with southern light and atmosphere. His works typically feature cavalry skirmishes, pastoral animal groups, travelers on Roman campagna roads, and bustling village markets. Paintings are usually monogrammed PVB or signed P. van Blommen. He died in Antwerp and was buried in St. Jacob's Church on 6 March 1720.
