Frank O. Gehry (1929–2025) was a Canadian and American architect and designer whose experimental work connected architecture with the visual-art culture of Los Angeles. After completing architecture studies at the University of Southern California in 1954, he established his own practice in Los Angeles in 1962. His early relationships with artists including Edward Kienholz, Robert Irwin, and Ed Ruscha helped situate his work within an avant-garde creative context.
